About the Author
Jerry H. Ratcliffe is a Professor with the Department of Criminal Justice and Director of the Center for Security and Crime Science at Temple University, Philadelphia. He is a former police officer with London’s Metropolitan Police (UK) where he served for several years on patrol duties, in an intelligence and information unit, and as a member of the Diplomatic Protection Group.

Needs revision, but solid concepts

Purchased this book as compulsory reading for a Sergeants exam along with the Iannone book (Supervision of Police Personnel). This book is difficult to read. It almost seems as if the author went out of his way to make it difficult to read. I didn't enjoy the Iannone book, but this book in my opinion was just torturous to read. Also the diagrams (if you could call them that) were not helpful at all. I read three chapters because I had to, but I will never pick this book up again unless it is to put it in an envelope to ship to someone else. It got 2 stars because I don't HATE it, it's just a book, but it could use A LOT of work in improving the way it is written and the way the "diagrams" are presented.
