A Great Read and a Great Resource

I was searching for something comprehensive yet approachable that covers the whole nonprofit world, soup-to-sorbet, so grabbed the newly released "Nonprofit Management 101: A Complete and Practical Guide For Nonprofit Leaders and Professionals". It's an amazingly good read, and assembles the best thinking from some of the best minds in the field. At 600 pages, but with big font and lots of text boxes and other attention grabbers, the book covers complex subjects with ease and clarity:
* Fundraising with individuals, foundations and companies
* Legal, financial, and human resource management
* Board and volunteer recruitment and engagement
* Social media and the effective use of technology
* Nonprofit career paths
* Lobbying and advocacy
There is something useful in here for even the most advanced non-profit'ers, I would think. I plan to recommend it to anyone who could use such a thing!

Not for tiny all volunteer groups

I've just become a board member of a very small, all volunteer, humane society that I have been active in for seven years. Wanting to do a good job as a board member I went looking for books that might help me learn what is expected of boards and how we might grow our organization. This book is probably a good one for much larger organizations and it did contain some very helpful information but it's geared toward groups that are much bigger, have physical space and paid staff.

There are lots of books in the non-profit field, but Darian Rodriguez Heyman has succeeded in showcasing expertise from leaders on the ground with practical advice. The depth of the topics are impressive: from Managing Organizations and People to Nonprofit Law and Finance, and fundraising, you should feel informed and empowered as a non profit leader after reading the book.

As an Excecutive Director of a non profit, I have already applied some of the advices in the book, this is a must read!

About the Author

Ta-Pei Cheng, Professor Emeritus, University of Missouri - St. Louis

Ta-Pei Cheng is a particle physics theorist. After graduating from Dartmouth College, he obtained his PhD at Rockefeller University with the noted physicist and Einstein biographer Abraham Pais. During 1973-2007 he was on the faculty at University of Missouri - St. Louis, where he now holds the rank of Professor Emeritus. Starting the early 1980's Oxford University Press has published a number of his books, the most recent one being "Einstein's Physics: Atoms, Quanta, and Relativity - Derived, Explained, and Appraised".

The biology class I'm taking had this as a required textbook. The bookstore did not order any of them so I searched Amazon to find a good price. The book I received was not only what I needed but was in better condition than I anticipated. I must admit, I looked not only for price but for a store in my home state so it would get here faster. This vender came through getting it to me 4 days prior to what the projected delivery date would be. Highly recommend buying from this source.

Hello, Im a Med student and became a Histology lover during my course. I own several Histo books and I have to say that I have read them all. So I have used this Atlas to "supplement" my Ross and my Wheater's and my 2-3 others, just for fun.
Regarding to this Atlas, and this is JUST an Atlas, I have to say that in my humble opinion it doesn't worth the buy if you intend to reach a somewhat decent level in this course. I dont want to discourage anyone from buying it, after all I have also bought it, but not everyone is willing to spend money on UNNEEDED books. I have seen a lot of people using it, and may be it did saved some "lives" but there are lots of better Histo books out there guys. The picture quality is moderate, the text is too much simplified (and I am not a native English speaker!)If you want a concise book my pick would be Wheater's, and if you want a thorough one, I would choose the Ross. For an Atlas I would go for the "Color Atlas of Histology" by Gartner. And generally speaking, if you go JUST for Ross, you will not need any other book.
I give this book a generous mark of three stars and add one if I heart someones feelings and hope that it was helpfull.

Outstanding atlas for histology students

I'm a med student and found this study guide just awesome. The pictures make histology much easier to learn and helped me of course with my histology lab. For class exams, I used the following which was also awesome: Histology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi, which is also on amazon. This last study guide was quite thorough with the type of questions to look out for on my medical histology exams. It proved very valuable since it helped me get very good grades. Both books are very valuable and should help any med student.

This welcome addition to the crustacean literature compiles, for the first time, descriptions and figures of larvae from all the different groups of crustaceans. Many are exquisite, never-before published scanning electron micrographs or light microscope photographs... One especially helpful feature is a table clarifying the many different (and often confusing) terms that have been used for the larvae of crabs and shrimps. A superbly illustrated book in the highest academic tradition of scholarship. If I had a criticism it would be the need for more taxonomic treatment, for people like myself who want ot put names to things, but this is minor.

I do enjoy getting these side stories and have purchased the ones from Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson. However, there was very little content for the $3.99 price. The site said there was 150 pages but more than half the content included is excerpts from the other books. I really enjoy these books but will probably not purchase a "teaser" by this author again.

Really Just a Teaser with Not Much Substance

This book is a little teaser for the upcoming novel release - it gets you back in the action and a refresher on the Lorian saga, but it does drag in a few spots with #9's moodiness. This is more of a background filler novella vs. a book. I felt a little ripped off at $3.99 as it didn't take long to read this and there wasn't much substance to it.

If you're an "I Am Number Four" addict, you will absolutely love this as it will feed the addiction. On the other hand, I think I will just wait for future full-length novels as I feel as most, if not all, of the lost files will be revealed with the novel version.

Finally the Scriptural Word as YAHUWAH intended it to be.

Absolutely the most accurate translation of the New Blood Covenant derived from the original Paleo Hebrew. New expository understandings of the Word that reveal the incompleteness and outright deception in virtually all other translations that have been made through the unfortunately use of the second generation Greek texts and their corruption. Virtually every page opens my eyes to a new level of truth and corrects issues I've had for years with all other translations. I have trouble putting the Book down. I sing praises to the Name above all names that true Name of both the Father and the Son, YAHUWAH ! ToDaH (thank You) YaHuWaH, YaDaH (praise) YaHuWaH, that You would bring to life in these treacherous end times the true majesty and power of the Original Scriptures in the original tongue unadulterated by the lying deceptively clever interloping deceiver Shatan and his earthly henchmen. I cheer and laugh broadly as new understand and wisdom enters through the reading of this, the inspired original Word.

Very Disappointed

I initially loved this book, but some things did not add up and I did a lot of research on the author, whose real name is Ralph C. Bethea Jr. He claims that he was the pastor of the largest church in Ohio in the late 1970's with a congregation of 6,000 people, but he actually pastored a small start-up Southern Baptist church in South Tulsa, Oklahoma. He also used the title of "Dr." Ralph Bethea at that time, but now claims two Master's degrees.

There are many issues within the book itself, and it's especially troubling that words and phrases were apparently changed to match his church theology. Equally troubling is the author's cult-like insistance that only those who refer to God as Yah and Jesus as Yahuwah will be saved. Really??

Why then does the Son of God use the name Jesus when appearing to small children like Akiane Kramarik, the 3.5 year old girl who later became a famous painter and poet after encounters with Him, and also young Colton Burpo, whose experience with Jesus in heaven resulted in the popular movie, "Heaven is for Real." Akiane had never heard of Jesus before He appeared to her and told her to draw the faces of people. She has since appeared on many programs like Oprah Winfrey and her paintings are remarkable, especially her portrait of Christ and the story behind it, painted at the age of 8 years old. After Colton's heaven experience, he described his talks with Jesus and others, things he could not have known about without having that kind of encounter.

I seriously question whether this and his other book are what the Ralph C. Bethea Jr claims, but he's persuasive in person and his book is quite believable, at least at first. It's the kind of book you want to believe and hope it's true, but is it? I think not. We must "test the spirits" and be very cautious about accepting "Raphah's" books as Truth, for too much hangs in the balance.

Finally someone is trying to get thet truth out.

Read this against your King James and you will clearly see a very different meaning and tone in scripture. One can't help come to the conclusion that this was not on accident. Also you can take a Strong's concordance and use it against the original Hebrew text to see that the truth has been twisted and altered from the true word of Yahuwah.

About the Author

Alexander Stanoyevitch is a professor at California State University–Dominguez Hills. He completed his doctorate in mathematical analysis at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and has held academic positions at the University of Hawaii and the University of Guam. Dr. Stanoyevitch has taught many upper-level classes to mathematics and computer science students, has published several articles in leading mathematical journals, and has been an invited speaker at numerous lectures and conferences in the United States, Europe, and Asia. His research interests include areas of both pure and applied mathematics.

NOT easy reading - SOLID overview

I am over one third through a first reading of this text. I have a general methodology for reading texts or reference texts. First, a quick read through. Next a read through with note taking. Lastly, a final read through with additional note taking and working of exercises.

I bought this text because I am taking a college course in Discrete Structures this Fall, 2011, for my major in Computer Science. The course has no assigned text per se. Hence, the need for a comprehensive text to scare the bejeebers out of me, and get a good, solid grasp of what the topic encompasses. This text definitely does both.

This text is considered a one-semester course. It covers basic Number Theory, Probability and Statistics, Cryptography and Cryptanalysis, and much more.

Since it includes theory as well as practical exercises for the student, and requires the student to prove some of the theorems, it might be classified as an upper division text for the undergraduate student after completion of a course in mathematical proofs or similar.

Regardless, this text challenges me to learn beyond my comfort zone. Yes, it is intimidating. Yes, some of the material is beyond my current training and exposure. And, definitely, YES, I will learn more each time I read and study through it.

As I am always looking for texts to become a permanent addition to my library, this text definitely qualifies for permanent status. It will sit very nicely next to my:"The Art of Computer Programming, Volumes 1-4A Boxed Set, Donald Knuth".

I believe this text deserves closer examination as a course text or reference text for your library.
