Alastair has a degree in Economics and German from London University, an MBA from the Open University Business School, and is an associate lecturer in corporate finance with the OUBS. Pros:
It does go through lots of useful examples. As a person persuing the career of becoming an actuary I know that it is worth buying it.
Cons:
The mathematical formulae is a bit skewed in a way that it does not use a nice notation, so as a current mathematics instructor this is not definitely a good book for math people.
As a person who is trying to learn Excel, this is also a bit too difficult to learn from. Although it comes with a CD showing you lots of examples, if you cannot build it yourself you cannot really learn it. I am not proficient in excel, so I find it not useful for beginners.
Summary:
Overall it seems like a good book for people who are already in the field of analysis, but it is not for people who are fresh to learn this subject.
